Candles in the Park

The story of Hannukah examines issues of freedom, power and morality. It is a story of faith, family, war, peoplehood and dedication. The holiday can be a moment of exploration of a central narrative and interesting themes within Jewish culture. At it's core, Hannukah is dedicated to celebrating light in the darkness of winter, the determination of the Jewish people to be free in the face of oppression, and it is an annual reminder of our responsibility to help ensure all peoples enjoy that freedom. Unfortunately, some try to twist its meaning to incite racist violence toward those who would seek asylum in Israel. Many came to the park, in the actual spirit of the festival of lights, to stand up against that hate.
